Further information:

Aleš South Bohemian Gallery is the only art museum in the South Bohemian Region and one of the five largest institutions of its kind in the Czech Republic. It preserves works of art from the 13th century to contemporary works and its collection ranks among the most important Czech institutions. It has been in operation since 1953 and bears the name of the famous South Bohemian native, painter and illustrator Mikoláš Aleš. The gallery's headquarters are located in the Castle Riding Hall, which is part of the Hluboká nad Vltavou Castle and serves for the presentation of regular attractive exhibition projects. The AJG is also located in the branches of the Wortner House in České Budějovice and the International Museum of Ceramics in Bechyně.

Visitors can choose from a wide selection of professional and popular exhibitions, presenting their own collections and projects created in cooperation with external curators and other gallery and private entities.

Current exhibitions in Hluboká nad Vltavou:

Maria Bartuszová | A Small Void Full of a Small Infinite Universe
8. 6. - 17. 11. 2025
Curator | Gabriela Garlatyová

For the first time in the Czech Republic, AJG presents a solo exhibition of one of the most outstanding sculptors of Central Europe. Maria Bartuszová reflected on the essence of nature and humanity. And her work is still relevant today. She deals with themes of ecology, motherhood or care for people and the environment. Her biomorphic sculptures evoke, for example, a drop, a cell, an egg or a stone, a tree, water. They are silent but powerful. The exhibition follows the significant presentation of her work in solo exhibitions, for example at Tate Modern in London, Museum der Moderne in Salzburg and the Venice Biennale.

Jiří David | The Power of the Face
8 June - 12 October 2025
Curator | Máša Pivovarová

Enter a world where faces are not concrete portraits, but subconscious images of our time.

Nearly a hundred hypnotic, ghostly or perhaps demonic masks from within the artist's unconscious will make you pause - and perhaps even unsettle you. The faces are silent, but speak to anyone who looks at them. The exhibition is a statement about a society where faces become masks - and the need to find depth in them again.

Miroslav Polách | Four Act
8 June - 17 November 2025
Curator | Adam Hnojil

Four cycles, four acts, four journeys into a world of suspense, dreaminess and the unexpected. Polách's selection of paintings from 2019-2025 feel like scenes from stories you once knew or have just begun to dream. In each painting, analytical approach meets intuition, calmness meets restlessness, and reality meets fiction. Four Act is a visual experience that slows down time and forces us to see differently. The key theme of the artist's work is the process of perception itself.
